UNIVERSITY OVERVIEW
Westlake University, located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, is the first research-oriented university in the history of the People's Republic of China organized by social forces and supported as a national key initiative. It originated from Zhejiang West Lake Institute for Advanced Study and officially obtained approval from the Ministry of Education on February 14, 2018. Following a high starting point, a compact size, and a research-oriented approach, the university is committed to gathering top-notch faculty, establishing outstanding disciplines, nurturing exceptional talents, and producing first-class achievements, aiming to make significant contributions to the country's strategy of revitalizing science and education and promoting innovation-driven development.
The university comprises two campuses. As of March 2021, the Yunqi campus covers an area of 66 acres with a building area of 106,000 square meters. By October 2021, the Yungu campus has a total planned area of 1,484 acres and a total building area of 457,000 square meters. Westlake University has three secondary colleges, offering five undergraduate majors. The number of doctoral students has exceeded 600, and the university has attracted over a hundred outstanding academic talents from around the world.
By 2026, the university plans to have 300 assistant professors, associate professors, and professors (including distinguished professors), 600 research, teaching, technical support, and administrative staff, as well as 900 postdoctoral researchers.

Requirements

Tenured faculty: Associate Professor, Full Professor, or Chair Professor
- The applicant should have world-class academic achievements and hold tenured Associate Professorship (or above) or equivalent positions in world-class universities or research institutes.
- The applicant promises to work full time at Westlake upon acceptance of the offer. 
Tenure-track faculty: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
- The applicant should have a doctorate degree.
- The applicant should have academic achievements equivalent to those of the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in world-class universities. 
- The applicant promises to work full time at Westlake upon acceptance of the offer. The first appointment will be five years.
